What Your Terrarium Kit Includes (May vary depending on the kit)

  • Glass terrarium
  • Clay LECA balls
  • Sphagnum moss
  • Activated carbon
  • Special terrarium soil mix
  • Decorative rocks
  • Live plants
  • Live moss

Step by Step Instructions

1. Add the Clay Balls

Gently empty the bag of clay balls into the bottom of the glass terrarium. This creates a drainage layer which acts as a water reservoir and helps prevent root rot.

2. Add the Sphagnum Moss

Place a layer of Sphagnum moss directly on top of the clay balls. This keeps the soil separate from the drainage layer and helps maintain structure.

3. Add the Activated Carbon

Sprinkle the activated carbon evenly over the Sphagnum moss. This helps filter the water inside the terrarium and reduces the likelihood of mould or mildew developing.

4. Add the Soil Mix

Add the soil mixture to create a planting layer. Aim for a depth similar to the height of the plant pots. You may not need to use all of the soil depending on the size of your glass container.

5. Prepare and Position the Plants

Remove your plants from their pots and lightly loosen the roots. Use the empty pots to make shallow marks in the soil. These indentations will guide where each plant will sit.

6. Add Rocks and Live Moss

Place the decorative rocks and live moss around the plants. This allows you to create a natural landscape and finalise the appearance of your terrarium.

7. Watering Guidance

When fully assembled, slowly pour water into the terrarium until roughly one third of the drainage layer is filled. If heavy condensation builds up on the glass over time, remove the lid briefly to let some moisture escape. Water again only when the soil feels dry, which is usually after several months in a closed terrarium environment.
